His-Story as Bunk

Women make history; they do not make his-story

The Patriarchy has long tried to deny Woman a place in what Man calls “history”.

〰 ⚤ 〰

For millennia, she was told she was confined to the house, deprived of an education and of the right to work; forbidden to participate in government, the economy, the military, the arts, the sciences, philosophy, or academia; not allowed to publish work under her own name, or to patent what she created.

Any woman who bridled at these restrictions met with huge familial and social resistance. She could expect to be ostracised, threatened, imprisoned, beaten, or killed into her accepted place.

〰 ⚤ 〰

Oh yes, the Patriarchy tried hard to prevent women from making history.

〰 ⚤ 〰

And when so many of them did so, against overwhelming odds, their amazing contributions were reviled, deemed irrelevant, glossed-over, ignored, buried, minimized, confined to a footnote, denied, erased, or attributed to a man.

Of course, women made history – read the hundreds of thousands of their amazing stories on Wikipedia!

What they didn’t make is his-story.
