Two words which sound the same, but have such different meaning for the girl who is razed as versus being raised.

In Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, to be conceived female is to get an automatic death sentence: To be executed … in the womb … at birth … in the cradle … usually by your mother … with the enthusiastic support of your extended family and these days, a debased medical system using modern technology to identify a foetus’ sex.

Various studies estimate that from 1985 to 2012 between 100 million and 200 million girls in these countries were disappeared – brutally eliminated because of a cultural preference for male children.

How many more girls have been butchered since then? And, if holocaust is the word used for the slaughter of 6 million, what word could properly capture the horror of this exponentially larger, ongoing, little-discussed gendercide?

We hope to provoke some truly serious thought about this issue and the brutal, miserable conditions the other half daily endures in the other half of the world.
