Well, Duh!

Man 1: I tied him up and then punched him senseless. It was easy to beat him.

Man 2: Well, duh … no big accomplishment, you had the advantage!

〰 ⚤ 〰

Man 1: My horse lost the race. It was handicapped with too much weight.

Man 2: Well, duh … no surprise there, it had a disadvantage!

〰 ⚤ 〰

Man 1: In our family, girls were deprived of education and every opportunity, except to be a wife and mother. The family’s resources were for the boys. And, you know what, none of the women in our family ever accomplished as much as the men did.

Man 2: Well, duh … that’s women for you – just can’t compete with us guys!

Women Shouldn’t Have to Pass as Men For Freedom

From Joan of Arc to George Elliott, from Madame du Chatelet to General James Barry, women have historically found freedom by passing as men.

〰 ⚤ 〰

Women, have passed as males in even the most violent and masculine of environments: Women’s bodies, dressed as men, have often been found on battlefields. Women who manned pirate vessels have been hung from the yard-arm.

〰 ⚤ 〰

The story of the plucky young woman who dons male attire and outfoxes, outmanoeuvres, outwits, and out-mans the men is a common literary motif.

〰 ⚤ 〰

How many women chafed at the thought of being forced to give credit to their brothers, husbands, sons, or friends for work they were forbidden by the Patriarchy from claiming? How many of these women chose to hide their identity behind male accoutrements to accomplish ends denied to females?

〰 ⚤ 〰

How many heroes /sailors / soldiers / priests / frontiersmen / pioneers / writers / inventors / philosophers / scientists were women in drag?

Men have stolen their sisters’ legacies

Under the patriarchy, Men have stolen from their Sisters the legacies of history, of discovery, of authorship, of creation, and of invention.

〰 ⚤ 〰

They impoverished us; their actions left us lesser mortals, constrained to a tiny world limited to the walls of our household.

〰 ⚤ 〰

And, then they derided us for our poverty of experience and called us inferior.

We Love Free Labor!

The Founding Fathers conveniently declared that blacks were inferior to whites and not deserving of equality, opportunity, or the vote.

Great economic decision that!

Free labour – the sweat, blood, and lives of unpaid black slaves made America wealthy.

〰 ⚤ 〰

The same men declared their mothers, wives, and daughters to be similarly handicapped.

Brilliant economic decision that!

Yet more free labour.

〰 ⚤ 〰

How long do we allow the dominant males in our society to dictate reality? To tell us what our capabilities are? What our options are? What our rights are?

How much longer do we allow these men to profit from our unpaid or inadequately paid labour?

How Men Welcome Competition!

Competition? Men love to applaud and praise competition. But the threat of real competition scares them. So, historically, men eliminated at least one-half of the human race from the race.

〰 ⚤ 〰

Man’s dirty little secret when it comes to competition resembles their economic attitudes: Talk about free trade while instituting subsidies, tariffs and quotas.

〰 ⚤ 〰

Subsidies: Advantage a product by providing it with financial assistance not provided to others.
Tariffs: Disadvantage a product with a higher cost structure.
Quotas: Restrict product entry.
Subsidies: Boys get the lion’s share of a society’s resources; girls get left out.

Tariffs: Girls do the housework and then they can do paid work.
Quotas: No girls allowed.

History: Just-Not-So Stories

Until the lion has a historian of its own, tales of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.
African proverb

〰 ⚤ 〰

The very ink with which all history is written is merely fluid prejudice.
Mark Twain

〰 ⚤ 〰

History does not repeat itself. Historians repeat each other.
Arthur Balfour

The victor will never be asked if he told the truth.

God cannot change the past, but historians can.

Despite The Enormous Handicaps

Men ask women, “Where are your great entrepreneurs, writers, musicians, doctors, philosophers, scientists, artists?”

〰 ⚤ 〰

This is akin to a plantation-owner in the Deep South demanding of his slaves, “So, where are all your great entrepreneurs, writers, musicians, doctors, philosophers, scientists, artists?”

〰 ⚤ 〰

The amazing thing is that despite the enormous handicaps imposed on them by Society, women and other minorities have created so many great entrepreneurs, writers, musicians, doctors, philosophers, scientists, and artists.

If The Tables Were Reversed

Imagine if the tables had been reversed, if for millennia boys had been told from birth:
◦ How useless, unwanted, and inferior they were.
◦ That they were restricted to the house.
◦ That their only legitimate future was marriage, childcare, and house-work.

〰 ⚤ 〰

◦ That fewer resources would be devoted to them than to their sisters.
◦ That they were not entitled to an education, a trade, or a job.
◦ That they could not do art, music, writing, philosophy, science, or research; that they were not allowed to publish or to patent their work.

〰 ⚤ 〰

Privileged women could then hypocritically berate their disadvantaged brothers by taunting, “Where are your famous men? Where are all your great scientists, mathematicians, inventors, philosophers, writers, composers, and artists?”

History: Unkind to women because men write it.

History: An account, mostly false, of events, mostly unimportant, which are brought about by rulers, mostly knaves, and soldiers, mostly fools.
Ambrose Bierce

〰 ⚤ 〰

The history of the world is the history of the privileged few.
Henry Miller

〰 ⚤ 〰

A history free of Society’s biases, prejudices, and values does not exist. History has been unkind to women because men write it.

One Wonders How Any Women Made It Into His-story

History is written by the winners.

〰 ⚤ 〰

Women have long been legislated, regulated, and mandated into the loser’s position.

〰 ⚤ 〰

One should not ask why few women made it into “his – story”.
One should wonder how any made it all.
